A Florida woman and her husband are behind bars after she allegedly assaulted her grandmother and yanked her bra off in an attempt to steal money for a hotel room, authorities said.
Police arrived at a Port Orange apartment Monday night to find Brigitte Matzke's 84-yerar-old grandmother crying outside on the stoop, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
Matzke had demanded $80 from her grandmother so she and her husband could stay at a hotel. When the elderly woman said she didn't have the money, Brigitte flew into a rage and barged into the bedroom.
The grandmother tried to stop Brigitte, but the woman grabbed her grandmother, tore her bra off her chest and twisted her wrists, police said. Brigitte then stole $1,900 worth of her grandmother's property, including jewelry and a cellphone, before fleeing the house.
It is not clear if the grandmother, Aida Matzke, needed medical treatment after the incident.
A neighbor heard screaming and banging coming from the home on Floral Springs Boulevard and called the cops. Brigitte and her husband- who according to police did nothing to stop the attack - were arrested shortly after midnight when a deputy spotted their car at a South Daytona gas station.
The husband, 26-year-old Alex Caldwell, was removed from the car and arrested, The Huffington Post reported. Brigitte was found hiding in the men's restroom and arrested.
Both husband and wife were charged with false imprisonment, burglary with assault/battery, battery on a person 65 years or older, grand theft and intimidating or threatening witnesses, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported. The duo was also charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Brigitte was held Tuesday on $56,500 bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail. Her husband was not granted bail, the newspaper reported.
