Jason Momoa has officially joined the "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The former "Game of Thrones" actor is set to play Aquaman in the Warner Bros. production, joining cast members Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot as the latest superhero to sign on.  Rumors of Momoa landing the role began in December 2013, but the actor repeatedly denied any involvement with the production.

Momoa most recently denied involvement during a part of a "Game of Thrones" panel at Detroit's Motor City Comic Con in May. According to ComicBookMovie.com, a reporter asked Momoa about the alleged casting at the time and the actor quickly became annoyed.

"What does everything tell you? No. Stop asking me. It's so annoying. Sorry, you're not annoying," Momoa told the panel crowd.  "Oh you're the press? Get the f*** out of here. Here, put this in there - you're a d***, you're a d***. [Allowing the audience to laugh] You're not a d***, I'm just playing. You know what, I think it started when people said 'What superhero would you play?'

"And I'd say Batman and Superman, they'd be awesome together. Then people were like, 'He's in Batman vs. Superman!' I'm like, I really like Lobo. 'HE'S LOBO!!' And then some a**hole was like 'He's Aquaman! And I'm like - what did you just call me? Where the f*** do you pull out Aquaman? Seriously... And then it shows up on the Internet. Not that it's a bad rumour."

HitFix originally broke the news of Momoa's casting, but Warner Bros.has yet to comment on the actor joining the production.

"While Warner Bros. hasn't made that announcement officially yet, HitFix can confirm that he will be playing the part, and that Zack Snyder has already finalized his designs for the character so shooting can take place soon," according to HitFix.

"Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" will be released to theaters on May 6, 2016.
