Amazon's smartphone could have 3-D elements when released June 18.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the device might also contain an eye tracking feature that detects when a user shifts his or her vision.

A principal analyst at Enderle Group told Marketwatch, the online retailer is changing its focus from offering equipment to servicing mobile devices.

"What [Amazon CEO Jeff] Bezos will be doing is flipping it from a hardware model to a services model," Rob Enderle said. "Bezos is a disruptive element, and making life miserable for everyone."

Enderle also stated that the phone's 3-D display allows consumers to easily view the smartphone's many apps.

"A 3-D screen will allow you to basically have multiple virtual panels you can see into the device," Enderle said. "You could get a ton more space to put stuff on, and then rotate the box to sharpen the focus on the one item you want."

An analyst at a financial services firm Robert Baird told Marketwatch that the gadget may or may not improve company sales.

"An Amazon smartphone could be fraught with risk," Colin Sebastian said in a memo. "Understandably there are concerns about Apple's platform dominance in mobile devices, but launching a stand-alone phone could add margin pressures and significant competitive headwinds."

According to The Journal, Amazon plans to boost sales by analyzing data it collects about where consumers use their smartphones. The company will also tally which apps users download. These include programs for videos, household products and e-books.

The online retailer told consumers about the launch via their Twitter account.

"Join Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos for our launch event on June 18 in Seattle. Request an invite," the post said. Click here for more information.

Amazon announced plans for the smartphone April 14, 2014. Their $99 Fire TV set box launched April 2.
