Watch As Storm Chaser Gets Struck By Lightning (VIDEO)

A man caught himself on camera being electrocuted while chasing a storm in South Dakota on Tuesday.

Professional storm chaser Scott Sheppard told KARE 11 that he was driving down State Highway 79 near Fairburn when he pulled over and stuck his arm out the window to get a better shot of the brewing storm.

Lightning suddenly bolted out of the sky and struck Sheppard's arm, disabling his car as well as another car passing by, according to a description of the video on YouTube. The lightening made its way from his arm to the ground, striking a hole in the road.

Sheppard's camera was rolling the entire time. A faint rainbow can be seen in the background beyond the road.

Sheppard told KARE 11 that he and a colleague were their way to Montana to record images from another storm. Both Sheppard's car and the passing car had to be towed after the lightning struck.

The New Jersey native told the station on Wednesday that besides a sore arm he is fine.

Sheppard's brush with death comes nearly a year after three storm chasers were killed by a tornado in El Reno, Oklahoma, USA Today reported.

There were reports of tornadoes in South Dakota on Tuesday. As of Wednesday there were no reports of injuries.

Lightning kills 51 Americans a year, according to the National Weather Service, USA Today reported.

Sheppard, a storm chaser of 10 years, told KARE 11 that he advises the average person not attempt to put themselves in the middle of a storm.
