As a steady stream of scandals continues to pour into Washington, Americans weighed in on the controversies in a new CNN/ORC poll.
The current improprieties facing Obama and other pundits, which include the Internal Revenue service's alleged targeting of certain conservative groups, the highly-charged congressional hearing bring conducted to determine any mismanagement in last September's attack in Benghazi, and the Justice Department's underground scheme to collect the phone records from the Associated Press, seem to harp only mildly in the minds of Americans.
The poll was published over the weekend, and 53 percent of Americans say they approve of the president's work, placing very little blame on his administration for the actions of the IRS. In addition to this, 60 percent of the respondents believe the statements Obama made following the burgeoning tax scandal are true and trustworthy despite recent backlash surrounding when he learned the about details.
Also conflicting with recent Republican narrative, 42 percent of those polled said that they are satisfied with the way the attacks in Libya were handled. Fifty-four percent of the participants say the GOP in Congress has not overplayed its hand in the Benghazi matter, with only 37 percent indicating that Republicans are overreacting to the attacks.
ORC International conducted the poll on Friday and Saturday, with 923 adults questioned over the telephone. CNN made the results public Sunday morning.
