Baby Found Dead At Canadian McDonald's

A Canadian man has been charged with the death of a baby that was with him at a McDonald's.

The 21-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, has been charged with manslaughter after paramedics found the baby not breathing at a McDonald's in the British Columbia province on Saturday, The Times Colonist reported.

B.C. paramedics arrived at the fast-food restaurant in the capital Victoria at around 8 a.m. and attempted to revive the baby boy, who was reportedly less than six months old.

"All attempts to save the infant were unsuccessful," Victoria police spokesman Mike Russell said in a statement obtained by The Huffington Post Canada.

Investigators were called to the scene after paramedics became suspicious of the circumstances of the baby's death. The cause of death was not immediately released.

"Our officers have been working all night on this case- they've certainly spoken to the suspect, the person who's been charged [and] they did note how the baby was deceased, and those things definitely caused them some concern," Russell said according to The Times Colonist.

The suspect was the baby's foster father, according to a neighbor who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity.

The suspect left an apartment in Esquimalt with the baby in a stroller. He then travelled on a double-decker bus to the McDonald's in downtown Victoria, police told The Times Colonist.

The mother of the baby, who lives in Greater Victoria, has been notified. It is not yet known if the baby had any siblings, Russell told the newspaper. It has also not been confirmed if the child was in the custody of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Police from Victoria and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit are still investigating the death by interviewing witnesses who were on the bus and at the McDonald's.
