Emma Watson Is Now A Graduate From Brown University

Emma Watson is officially a graduate now with a degree in English literature from Brown University, the actress confirmed on Twitter.

Emma Watson rose to fame with her role as Hermione Granger in the "Harry Potter" series. In pursuit of her career, the 24 year old actress was forced to take a short break from her education. Now, Watson is officially a graduate with a degree in English literature from Brown University. She took to her twitter account to share a picture of herself wearing a graduation cap and gown.

Watson was previously studying in the Ivy League college from September 2009 to March 2011. However, duty called and in 2012, the actress left her studies midway to promote the last of the "Harry Potter" series.

Returning to finish her education wasn't all that easy for Watson, though it's uncommon for people to complete their 3-year-degree in five years.

"On the first day, I walked into the canteen and everyone went completely silent and turned to look at me," she told The Sunday Times. "I had to say to myself, 'It's okay, you can do this. You just have to take a deep breath and gather your courage.'"

The news of Watson graduating immediately made the hash tag, "#WeAreProudOfEmmaWatson," trend worldwide. Watson had previously said that pursuing her education was a "form of rebellion."

She admitted that her stardom made it difficult for her to fit in with the crowd but after a while she learnt to accept that she was famous and would never be just another girl attending college. With time, things started to feel normal. In a previous interview she also admitted that she was never asked for an autograph on campus. She also said that she did throw college parties and more than 100 students attended but none of them put up those party pictures on Facebook or any other social networking sites.

Her decision to join Brown University was because she liked the open curriculum that the University offered and that there weren't any requirements.

"Really, I've kind of been in charge of my own education since I started out on Potter when I was 9 or 10, and I liked that I could design my own major if I wanted to, and I could take independent studies if I wanted to on subjects that weren't necessarily in the curriculum," she told Rookie in 2013.

Though Watson has already begun work on the thriller "Regression," her future plans haven't been decided yet. Earlier the actress had said she was waiting to graduate after which she would have all the time in the world to pursue other passions. However, she made it clear that she would love to continue having a life that is completely unrelated to the film industry.
