Nineteen-year-old Justin Bieber looked shocked and a little confused as the audience booed when he took the stage at the Billboard Music Awards to accept his Milestone Award. After a brief pause, the "Beauty and the Beat" singer told the audience he thought that only his "craft" and his music should be considered.
"This is not a gimmick," Bieber said. "I'm an artist and I should be taken seriously."
The pop star added that "none of the other bull" should matter; probably referring to all the not-so-flattering press he has been receiving lately. Bieber went on to thank his family, friends, his manager, his fans and Jesus Christ.
Bieber beat out Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars for the fan-voted award. The Milestone Award acknowledges the singer's achievements on the Billboard charts. He also took the award for "Top Male Artist." Bieber also hit the stage for two performances to sing his song "Take You" and to perform with Black Eyed Peas Will.i.am for their collaboration "#thatPOWER."
"I'm 19 years old," he told the crowd while accepting the Milestone Award. "I think I'm doing a pretty good job."
This is not the first time Bieber has been booed. During a Canadian football game, Bieber was booed during his entire half-time performance, when his face popped up on the JumboTron ad when a host said the pop star's name.
During a New York Knicks game, Bieber who was sitting courtside with New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, was booed when his face showed on the big screen and when the singer showed up to a concert hours late, fans showed their disappointment by booing the singer when he finally showed up.
