In what could be possibly the fallout of an ongoing domestic violence dispute, a man named Radcliffe Franklin Haughton, barged into a Wisconsin spa where his wife worked and began shooting indiscriminately leaving three dead and four injured.
The 45-year-old was later found dead apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident took place on Sunday morning in a Milwaukee suburb at the Azana Day Spa, a two-story, 9,000-square-foot building across from a major shopping mall in Brookfield.
Hours after the shooting, confusion and tension heightend as authorities feared there could be improvised explosive device inside the building. Abomb squad arrived at the spot and police went on a massive six-hour hunt for the gunman until he was found dead in the spa.
The nearby shopping mall, a country club adjacent to the spa and the hospital where the survivors were taken were locked down to search of the shooter and the manhunt brought the activities in the busy commercial road to a standstill.
The Brookfield Police Department later identified the shooter as Haughton, a resident of Brown Deer. He was accused of slashing his wife's tires. prompting her to seek a temporary restraining order against him. A Milwaukee County court then issued a four-year restraining order on Thursday, the police said in a televised news conference.
The victims have not been identified and it is not clear at this point in time if Haughton's wife is among them. Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital where the survivors are admitted released a statement which said:
"Four patients were brought to Froedtert Hospital with gunshot wounds to their extremities. All four patients are expected to survive. The first patient is in surgery and is in critical condition. The second patient has completed a surgical procedure and is in satisfactory condition. The third patient is being stabilized and will undergo surgery later tonight. The fourth patient has been admitted with injuries that do not require surgery."
