An Indian bride was killed at her wedding when her cousin shot her at close range while she was standing on the stage next to the groom, the New York Daily News reported.
Dr. Jaishri Namdeo, 29, just finished her vows when her cousin, Anurag Singh, reportedly made his way up the aisle and shot her in front of the guests on Thursday night. The bride suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was taken to the hospital where she passed away. The groom, Rohit Namdeo, was hot harmed.
Singh, who arrived at he wedding pretending to be a photographer, allegedly shot the bride because he thought she "cheated" on him.
The cousin tried to turn the gun on himself after the shooting, but the bullet missed the gunman and almost killed a bystander. Several witnesses grabbed Singh, took away his gun and proceeded to beat him, the Daily News reported.
Police arrived and took Singh into custody.
Singh, 31, apparently told police he loved Jaishri Namdeo, who was a pediatrician at the Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal, The Indian Express reported. He fell in love with his cousin when the two went to the same coaching institute in Bhopal. Singh said he could not deal with seeing her marry another man.
Jaishri and Rohit, a surgeon at the medical college, got engaged on Feb. 3. Singh warned the two not to go through with the wedding, threatening to kill her and himself after he saw their engagement announced on Facebook.
"Just you wait and watch," Singh reportedly wrote on his Facebook page. He also posted pictures of himself posing with a gun, The Indian Express reported.
Another deadly shooting at a wedding occurred in April when a Pennsylvania bride shot and killed her niece outside her wedding celebration at a bar. The bride allegedly shot her niece over an argument about who would be the designated driver.
