Carrie Fisher is getting in tip-top shape to reprise her role as Princess Leia in the new "Star Wars" film. Fisher's mom, actress and singer Debbie Reynolds, stopped by "Extra" earlier in the week and told Mario Lopez that her daughter had lost 40 pounds.

Reynolds said Fisher has been working hard to slim down ever since talk began about a "Star Wars Episode 7" movie.

"She's very excited about it... she's been on a diet ever since, because you know they have to be up to par, so she looks terrific," Reynolds said. "She's very excited, as we all are, because we all love 'Star Wars.'"

The 57-year-old actress will join Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) in the reboot. Director J.J. Abrams and Disney also announced newcomers Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Domhall Gleeson will star in the film.

Last year, before Fisher was officially cast, she told the Calgary Herald that she was exited to get in shape for the role as Princess Leia.

"I'm glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape," she said, TODAY reports. "I'm really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it, I will have eaten everything."

Back in 2011, the actress said that, with the help of Jenny Craig, she had dropped 50 pounds. Fisher jokingly said that her goal was to "get into the metal bikini and just walk around the house like an idiot."

It's not clear if Fisher will get to rock the metal "slave" bikini she famously wore in the 1983 "Star Wars: Episode VI-Return of the Jedi" but she has been showing off her slimmer figure at different events.

Fisher, along with the rest of the cast, is currently in London working on the film. "Star Wars Episode 7" is expected in theaters December 2015. Recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that there are plans to release three other "Star Wars" franchise films from 2016 to 2018, Slash Films reports.
