HBO's "The Comeback" is coming back.
After months of nail-biting speculation, HBO has officially announced Monday that "The Comeback," their short-lived comedy series starring Lisa Kudrow, will return for a six-episode run, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show is scheduled to begin production on May 19 in Los Angeles, nearly a decade after the original season premiered. The cable network series was canceled in 2005 after 13 episodes, due to poor ratings and reviews.
"The Comeback" stars Kudrow as fading TV it girl Valerie Cherish, who lets a camera crew follow her efforts as she attempts to resurrect her acting career. The mockumentary's new season will continue to follow Kudrow's character as she tries to enter the spotlight, but battles the problems that come with stardom.
"It was almost too fun play Valerie Cherish the first time around," Kudrow said in a statement. "I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character."
The "Friends" alum co-created the show with Michael Patrick King, who is known for "Sex and the City" and "2 Broke Girls". Kudrow and King will both serve as executive producers along with producing partner Dan Bucatinsky, who is known for "Scandal".
Kudrow confirmed that the cast, which includes Lance Barber, Dan Bucatinsky, Robert Michael Morris, Laura Silverman and Damian Young, will all reprise their respective roles.
"'The Comeback' holds a special place in the hearts of its many fans, including many of us here at HBO," Michael Lombardo, HBO president of programming, said in a statement. "I can't wait to find out what Valerie's been up to since we last met."
The show managed to secure Emmy nominations, which included King for directing and Kudrow for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy.
