Nine Inch Nails may be auditioning for a new bassist very soon.
Bassist Eric Avery has left the Trent Reznor-lead industrial rock group, according to his Facebook page.
"It's with very mixed emotions I tell you all that I'm pulling out of NIN. I know. It's been a tough call and I don't know if it's the right one," he posted.
Avery said the upcoming year-and-a-half of extensive touring, that includes Jay-Z's Made in America Festival, would be too much for him. The bassist, who recently returned from a tour with Shirley Manson-lead band Garbage, said he wants to be able to focus on his film and music career in Los Angeles.
"I just got overwhelmed," Avery said in his statement. "I just got home from a year of heavy travel with Garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that Nails demands . . . fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14."
Nine Inch Nails, lead by Grammy Award-winning Reznor, has dates scheduled through the summer and fall including a number of festival appearances. The band is also slated to appear at Lollapalooza in Chicago and The Voodoo Festival in New Orleans in November. The band's next scheduled tour date is July 26 in Japan at the Fuji Rock Festival.
Avery was announced as part of the Nine Inch Nails touring lineup in February. Past Nine Inch Nails bassists have included Danny Lohner and and Jeordie White. Avery was also an original member of Jane's Addiction, a band he quit multiple times.
