Samsung is reportedly planning to launch a premium version of its flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone this June, featuring a metallic build and upgraded specs.

The smartphone battle is getting intense with more entries  expected this year. The rumors continue to build around the premium version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and a latest report from a Korean newspaper suggests that an overhauled Galaxy S5 will be launched in June. The speculated move on Samsung's part suggests a growing consumer demand for a metal-finish smartphone, something Apple and HTC have mastered over the years.

According to Asia Today, a Korean publication that reported the new development about a Galaxy S5 Prime in the pipeline, Samsung will focus on well established markets in Europe and the U.S. for its ultra-premium handset.

In addition to a metallic body on S5 Prime, Samsung is expected to upgrade from existing features found on the current Galaxy S5. An exclusive report from Sam Mobile last week suggested the Korean tech company will pack a QHD display with an extremely high-resolution 1440x2560 pixel screen. The current Galaxy S5 features a Full HD 1080 x 1920 pixel screen. The rumored handset is likely to debut the all-new octa-core Exynos 5430 processor with an Intel LTE modem, clocking speeds up to 2.1 GHz.

Another report from earlier this month suggested the pioneer in the all-metal smartphones, HTC, was looking to offer a plastic version of its flagship One M8 to attract budget customers, a move which defies Samsung in emerging markets such as China where the demand for budget smartphone remains high. This could mean the two tech giants are switching places to attract new customers and also shows the flexibility of these companies to bend to consumer demands.

If the all-metal ultra-premium Galaxy S5 arrives in June as reported, HTC will face stiffer competition in the high-end smartphone space. Samsung, on the other hand, has kept mum on the subject but if the company has some real plans for the Galaxy S5 Prime, it is likely we will see some teaser images and videos at least a month ahead of the official release.
