Paris Riots: Football Fans Brawl After Paris Saint-Germaine Wins French Title (VIDEO)

A celebration in the streets of Paris turned violent, after Paris Saint-Germain won its first French soccer league title in 19 years.

More than 30 people were injured and 21 arrests were made, according to Paris police commissioner Bernard Boucalt, who spoke to the Los Angeles Times Tuesday.

Following Sunday's victory, soccer fans took to the circular avenues of Paris for a celebratory parade.

Paris Saint-Germain players participated in the parade, as did former Los Angeles Galaxy star David Beckham.

The fun ended when fans quickly grew out of control. Clashes between fans escalated when more than 10,000 of them waited for PSG players to appear on a podium in the center of the parade.

Less than five minutes after coach Carlo Ancelotti and captain Thiago Silva appeared to speak in front of the crowd, they were ushered away by their team, who sensed that the crowd was getting rowdy.

Spectators began throwing objects, releasing smoke bombs, and rushing the podium where the team stood.

Riot officials moved toward the crowds of people, firing tear gas as they went.

According to the BBC, it took 800 members of the police force to get the situation under control.

The Eiffel Tower stood in the distance, cloaked by tear gas and colored smoke bomb residue.

The soccer team released a statement late Monday night that intimated their disappointment.

"Today should have been a day of celebration for the city of Paris," they said. "The party was spoiled by a few hundred troublemakers who have nothing to do with football."

Three cafes had their windows smashed in, and several cars were damaged in the crossfire.

The French media was also frustrated by the incident, as news service Le Figaro wrote in a recent article.

"A few troublemakers were enough to spoil the party for which PSG and Paris had been waiting for 19 years. Such a long wait and such a fiasco," they said.
