Even the American and Russian presidents are willing to put their differences aside when it comes to matters of life and death.
In the midst of Cold War-like tensions between the United States and Russia, President Barack Obama has admitted he would save Russian President Vladimir Putin if he was drowning. Obama made the comment during a short news conference in Seoul, South Korea, USA Today reported.
Obama said he would "absolutely" save Putin's life if necessary.
"I'd like to think that if anybody is out there drowning I'm going to save them," Obama said according to USA Today.
On the same affectionate note, Putin said earlier this month he thinks the U.S. president wouldn't let him drown.
"I think he is a decent and quite courageous person," Putin said according to USA Today. "I think he would do it."
Obama even added that he is qualified for the job.
"I used to be a pretty good swimmer- I grew up in Hawaii," the president said.
The relationship between Russia and the West has become rocky as of late over Russia's interference in the Ukraine, which is currently facing protests from separatists. The protests sprung up in the east after the peninsula Crimea voted in a referendum to separate from Ukraine. Russia annexed Crimea in March, despite numerous economic sanctions imposed by the U.S. and Europe.
In the meantime, Putin has made several comments slamming the West and Ukraine government. On Thursday, Putin said the Internet was originally a "CIA project" and "is still developing as such," the Associated Press reported. Moscow needs to "fight for its interests online," Putin said.
Russia's parliament also recently passed a law that demands all social media websites keep its servers in Russia and retain user information for at least six months, the AP reported.
