Angie Everhart, a former "Sports Illustrated" model has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and will have to undergo immediate surgery.

Everhart's rep confirmed the news to "Extra."

"Word has been trickling out about supermodel/actress Angie Everhart's health," the rep said in a statement. "She wants to set the record straight by letting everyone know that it is true that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, however, the prognosis is very good."

The rep said the 43-year old decided to share the news about her health to encourage people to learn about cancer prevention, the signs and treatment options. Everhart's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and doctors expect the actress to be back to work and to "mommy duties" in the next couple weeks.

Everhart has a four-year-old son, Kayden. A couple days before Mother's day Everhart tweeted how she has been reflecting back on her life but nothing beats being a mom. She has also been tweeting how appreciative she is for all the support she is receiving.

Everhart is not the first celebrity to share a health scare about thyroid cancer.

Brooke Burke, co-host of "Dancing with the Stars" revealed last year that she had thyroid cancer. In a YouTube video she posted, the TV personality talked about how she went in for a regular checkup and got the surprising and startling news. Within a month she underwent a successful thyroidectomy.

Actress Sophia Vergara was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28. The 40-year-old "Modern Family" star is now raising awareness about the disease through her online campaign called Follow the Script. The campaign helps people learn about thyroid disorders, get information and teaches people about treatment.

Everhart can be seen in her newest movie "The Wedding Pact" starring Haylie Duff.
