After eight years of viewers wondering who the future mother of Ted Mosby's children is, "How I Met Your Mother" revealed her identity Monday night.
The girl in the band at Barney and Robin's wedding turns out to be actress Cristin Milioti, a 27-year-old from New Jersey who has performed on Broadway in the musical version of "Once," according to Entertainment Weekly. Her television career has included performances on "The Sopranos," "The Good Wife," "Nurse Jackie" and "30 Rock."
Milioti's face is first shown at a train station after giving visions of her yellow umbrella.
Now entering the show's ninth and final season, the CBS show creators Carter Bayes and Craig Thomas told Entertainment Weekly that they had intended only to reveal the identity of the mother at the end of the last season, when they thought there would only be eight seasons of the show. But when the series was extended to nine, they decided to put a twist on things and allow viewers to experience her character for a full season.
"We've talked here and there about letting the audience see the mother before Ted," Thomas told EW in an exclusive interview. "Would that be fascinating or let some air out of the balloon? We were scared of it for a long time, but this past season, it came up, and it just fit in so well. Ultimately we view it like we've been honing in on this mother mystery for so long,"
The show that began in 2005, is set in Manhattan and chronicles the lives of five friends, as told through character Ted Mosby to his children in the year 2030. Narrated by Bob Saget as the future Ted Mosby, storylines center around the social and love escapades of the group. The only future certain is that Mosby will get married and have children. Viewers just never knew with who until Monday.
