Insiders are speculating on the reasons behind one of Florida's most prominent pastor's resignation from his post.
The Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale's longtime minister Bob Coy resigned on Monday, citing an unspecified "moral failing."
The church didn't offer any details or reasoning to explain why the pastor suddenly left the organization, but did release an official statement on the news after a meeting on Sunday.
"On April 3, 2014, Bob Coy resigned as Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, effective immediately, after confessing to a moral failing in his life which disqualifies him from continuing his leadership role at the church he has led since its founding in 1985," the statement on the church's website read.
Although there hasn't yet been a specific explanation on the transgression that stopped Coy from carrying out his duties, some are now saying that certain extramarital affairs might have contributed.
"We have confirmed that Coy has admitted to at least two affairs in the past year alone and has had a long standing 'problem with pornography,'" the Huffington Post reported writer Michael Newnham as saying.
Newnham also stated that Coy was removed from the membership board page for the Calvary Chapel Association.
Spokesperson for the church Mike Miller told the Huffington Post that officials had no statement to give beyond the one posted online.
"We're not going to speculate on the blogs right now," Miller said.
Coy's sermons have been removed from the Calvary Chapel's website.
The 58-year-old pastor first moved from Las Vegas to south Florida in 1985. He then joined the megachurch, which rapidly expanded and became one of the largest religious institutions in the nation.
In Florida alone, the church has 10 large campuses, including the flagship location near Fort Lauderdale.
