Legal experts are weighing in on whether they think Jodi Arias will be put to death during the second sentencing phase of her trial.
33-year-old Arias was found guilty of first-degree murder for the death of former lover Travis Alexander, but a jury couldn't come to a unanimous decision for her penalty during the first portion of the trial.
The prosecution was pushing for the death sentence, while Arias' legal team tried for life in prison. Since then, Arias has been behind bars, biding her time.
Co-host of "The Agenda" and legal counsel for "Mac & Gaydos" on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR Monica Lindstrom stated that presiding Judge Sherry Stephens will most likely sentence Arias to life in prison with no parole because she "sat through the entire trial, she heard all the gruesome details, and there's really not a whole lot of mitigating evidence for Jodi."
"I don't think she'll be getting out," Lindstrom stated.
Attorney Mark O'Mara, who represented George Zimmerman in his murder case, said Arias' odds are stacked against her, since it appears as though she'd prepared to kill Alexander before carrying out the murder.
"There's really a lot against her, the fact that she tried to ingratiate herself to the jury and that didn't work is really going to hurt," he told HLN-TV. "On the other hand, the defense has to focus on this lady being out of touch with reality, some mental health mitigation, which is what we call in the business trying to get away from the death penalty by showing that there's things about Jodi Arias that you should sort of forgive her for, sympathize with her a little bit. But that whole trial was nothing but a disaster and a train wreck for Jodi Arias, the way she presented herself is going to be hard to get around."
A jury found Arias guilty of slitting Alexander's throat, shooting him in the head, then stabbing him multiple times. She's scheduled to take the stand in September.
