Tabloids and websites have already begun finding fault in the movie adaptation of E.L. James' erotic novel "Fifty Shades Of Grey". The recently released preview has given rise to criticism that it is more romantic than sexual.
The novel became a bestseller and a raging success because of its eroticism and a movie adaptation without this element is bound to disappoint fans.
Recently, Universal Pictures rolled out its first look of the movie based on the erotic novel by E.L. James focusing on the romance between Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) rather than their naughty play behind closed doors.
The production house assured the world's theater owners in attendance at this week's Las Vegas CinemaCon that they shouldn't "be afraid to book this one. You won't be embarrassed and we're all going to make a lot of money together," according to Entertainment Wise.
However, the recent reviews of the preview may get theater owners thinking. People magazine published a report saying the directors of the film should consider calling it "Fifty Lighter Shades of Grey."
"While the movie promises to be filled with all kinds of taboo carnal relations, what was shown in the clips was very PG-rated (they didn't even mention the word 'sex'). Of course, there was plenty of innuendo and suggestion of Christian Grey's habits behind locked doors, but none of it was explicitly shown," Eric Eisenberg from Cinema Blend told the website.
The preview totally contradicts singer Rita Ora's previous statement where she promised the movie was going to be passionate.
"The movie is amazing, it's such a great passionate movie," she said during a radio interview. "I had to be involved, I love the books."
"I know everybody's going to watch it, whether it's in secret or confidence, but everyone's going to watch it," she added. "It's going to be fun. I look really different and it was a good experience."
