The World Cup delivered its busiest day yet on Saturday, with Brazil held to a draw, Australia pulling off the tournament's biggest upset so far, and Scotland and Qatar marking milestones across four matches.

In the day's marquee fixture, Brazil and Morocco played to a 1-1 draw at the stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, a rematch of their 1998 group meeting and a clash between a five-time champion and the team that reached the 2022 semifinals. Ismael Saibari put Morocco ahead in the 21st minute before Vinícius Júnior equalized for Brazil in the 32nd, leaving both sides chasing in Group C.

Australia produced the upset of the tournament so far, beating Türkiye 2-0 in Vancouver. Nestory Irankunda finished a counterattack in the 27th minute, and Connor Metcalfe doubled the lead with a long-range strike in the 75th. The win lifted Australia to second in Group D, level on points but behind the United States on goal difference.

Scotland earned its first World Cup victory since 1990, edging Haiti 1-0 in an end-to-end match. John McGinn scored the only goal in the 28th minute, bundling in a rebound after Che Adams was denied. The win sent Scotland to the top of Group C ahead of Brazil and Morocco.

In Group B, Switzerland dominated but was held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar, which earned its first point in World Cup history. Breel Embolo converted an early penalty, but the Swiss were wasteful in front of goal — sending most of their many shots off target — and Qatar struck a late equalizer through Boualem Khoukhi. The result left all four teams in the group on one point.

The group stage continues, with another full slate of matches ahead as the 48-team tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, builds toward the knockout rounds.
