Police arrested a man on Monday in connection to a triple homicide discovered a day earlier after a girl reported a sexual assault, ABC News reported.
Jaacob Van Winkle, 31, was taken into custody and faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault.
On Sunday night, authorities found a 5-year-old boy, 9-year-old girl, and their 35-year-old mother dead in their home after an unidentified girl called police, mentioning she was sexually assaulted.
The names of the victims have not been released. However, authorities claim Van Winkle was a friend of the family's.
Police Sgt. Shannon Byerly said the teenager girl who reported the assault ran from the home to a friend's house before notifying authorities.
Byerly also said the girl was treated at a hospital and later released. It is unknown how she is connected to the homicide victims.
Van Winkle is currently being held without bond. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to call the Canon City Police at (719) 276 - 5600.
