Katy Perry had not arrived at the Met Gala 2024, but the internet thought she had for a moment because of an AI-generated photo that shows her posing on the museum steps. 

A picture appearing to show Perry in a flowery dress racked up nearly 300,000 likes on X, formerly Twitter. 

Many celebrities wore floral-inspired looks to the Met Gala 2024, and the photo seems to have been made by the event's dress code, "The Garden of Time."

Although it is unknown where the image came from, people online assume it is AI-generated. 

The photo was initially shared on April 18, weeks before the Costume Institute Benefit took place.   

Still, the picture went viral, with many commenting that Perry had the "best dress so far."   

Another seemingly fake photo of Perry wearing attire reminiscent of the "Garden of Time" also gained attention. 

There also seemed to be a false photo of Rihanna circulating. According to E!, Rihanna did not attend the event because she was sick.   

Perry, who last attended the Met Gala in 2022, shared the fake pictures on her Instagram story and an explanation for her absence.   

"Couldn't make it to the MET, had to work," she said. 

On the night of the Met Gala, people realized the photos were not real, and shared their feelings of being "fooled."   

"That Katy Perry picture definitely fooled me. It was crazy cause I thought she looked slightly off, but I didn't think too much and kept pushing. This is the future," one user wrote.
