Despite the turmoil in Ukraine, the Ukrainian national team will continue as planned and play USA on Wednesday.

"(We) reached a consensus to play the USA after all," Ukraine football association president Anatoliy Konkov said in a statement released on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. "(They) stood behind us to protect the national interests and territorial integrity of Ukraine."

Ukraine skipper Anatoliy Tymoshchuk believes the national team can symbolize the resolve of his fellow countrymen.

"The national team is a symbol of unity because players come from all over Ukraine," Tymoshchuk said. "We're all one big family, we're all united."

For the Americans, the friendly is an opportunity to knock off rust and tinker with lineups ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

"This game is a huge opportunity, mainly for our European-based players, for those guys to prove to us that they are eager and hungry to jump on the train to the FIFA World Cup," USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann said.
