A 5-year-old boy in California was fatally shot at home on Tuesday in what police called an "accidental" shooting, CBS Los Angeles reported.
The incident was reported around 5:20 p.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. When officers arrived at the home in Nuevo, the boy was already dead.
The name of the victim has not been released and it is unknown what type of weapon he was shot with.
No arrests have been made in the case and an investigation is ongoing.
Deputy Albert Martinez uploaded a series of tweets regarding the incident on Wednesday.
"There is a press release that will be posted shortly. Still being investigated as an accidental shooting," Martinez said.
Local media outlets reported that additional details surrounding the shooting will be released later today.
On Saturday, another 5-year-old boy was involved in an "accidental" shooting in Oklahoma. While the boy and his father, Darren Wayne Lannou, were in a Bass Pro Shop, the boy picked up his father's gun, prompting it to discharge.
A bullet grazed the boy's finger and shot Lannou in the leg. Both survived the incident.
"This will be investigated, but ultimately it will be up to the district attorney's office if any charges are filed," Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow told the Oklahoman. "It does appear right now to be an accident."
