Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is blasting Rep. Ken Buck's resignation after he abruptly announced he would not finish his term, setting up a special election to fill his Colorado's 4th District seat - on the same day as Boebert's primary.

Boebert announced Wednesday that she is not going to run in a June special election to fill the seat for the rest of the year.

"The establishment concocted a swampy backroom deal to try to rig an election I'm winning by 25 points," Boebert said in a statement reviewed by the Denver Post.

"Forcing an unnecessary Special Election on the same day as the Primary Election will confuse voters, result in a lame duck Congressman on Day One, and leave the 4th District with no representation for more than three months. The 4th District deserves better."

She said she wants to concentrate on the November election to fill the two-year term for the seat that begins in January.

Boebert, 37, declined to run for reelection for her current 4th district seat for the more Republican-friendly 3rd district.

When announcing her run for Buck's seat last year she expressed her commitment to serve the 3rd District until the current term concludes.

If Boebert had taken part in the special election and won, she would have been forced to step down from her current seat. That would have left it vacant and reduced the GOP's razor-thin majority.
