In recent days, some Trader Joe's locations have been overwhelmed by eager crowds - though these buyers aren't visiting the grocery store for food and drinks.

Instead, the enthusiastic crowds are eager to get their hands on the latest TikTok fad: miniature tote bags, that should cost just $2.99.

As the trend has exploded across social media, however, resellers have attempted to turn a much larger profit on the multicolored canvas bags. At least one set of four bags is currently for sale on eBay for $499.99, while other comparable sets are being marketed for well over $100.

The reselling market has taken off as stores have reportedly experienced phones ringing off the hook. One TikTok shows customers descending on a new display of bags, with the caption "this was so scary but I'm aware I'm part of the problem."

In some locations, the stores have even restricted the number of tote bags available per customer, Bon Appetit reported.

"As a seller, it just came naturally that I thought these would sell," an eBay seller told CNN. "I believe these were limited production."

The bags are available in four different colors - green, yellow, red, and blue - and some store employees believe that the bright colors have contributed to an early spring craze.

"Customers love it. They're buying a lot," a New Jersey Trader Joe's employee told CNN. "Easter is coming up and they make great baskets for kids."
