Actress Kristen Stewart is starring in director Rose Glass' love story "Love Lies Bleeding." She plays a reclusive gym manager named Lou who falls hard for Jackie (Katy M. O'Brian), an ambitious bodybuilder headed through town to Vegas in pursuit of her dream.

But their love ignites violence, pulling them deep into the web of Lou's criminal family.

Stewart told CNN she ceded control to Glass.

"I felt fully in her hands," said Stewart. "I don't always feel that way with directors. I think as an actor I'm becoming really annoying. I don't trust everyone. So it was fun to fully trust fall with her."

The director's debut, "Saint Maud," was a hit, and said she only had Stewart in mind for the role of Lou in her latest project.

"For all the darkness and weirdness of these characters, what I love is that Kristen and Katy bring out a sweetness, tenderness, and warmth in Lou and Jackie's relationship," said Glass.

Stewart is an Academy Award-nominated actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the Pablo Larrain directed Spencer.

Now she wants to move to the other side of the camera but she says her directorial debut remains frustratingly stuck in development.

She has been trying to raise financing for "The Chronology of Water," based on the memoir by bisexual author Lidia Yuknavitch for five years.

Stewart told Variety in January that she wouldn't make another movie before she finished her own before joking that she couldn't wait to hear her agent hear that.
