According to Business Insider's latest report, many Tesla Cybertruck owners complain that their electric pickup trucks are easily corroding and rusting just by getting exposed to the rain.

One of them is Will, a Tesla Cybertruck owner who said that he started documenting the corrosion of his new EV. Will said that he started noticing his new pickup truck developing rusk marks just 11 days after purchase.

"Throughout the LA rain, I noticed the corrosion was forming on the metal like other people have noted, so I decided to start documenting it and bringing it to Tesla's attention," said the Tesla owner.

Will added that he learned that this issue was already on Tesla owner's radar. However, he still wants the corrosion and rusting to be attended to under the warranty.

To do this, he brought his Tesla Cybertruck to a service center. A Tesla employee confirmed that what Will saw were not specks of dirt, but actual rusting. The staff said that they had a procedure on how to fix the rusting and corrosion issue. However, they don't have the tools on hand to immediately solve the problem.

Newly manufactured Tesla Cybertrucks are parked outside the company's Giga Texas factory on December 13, 2023, in Austin, Texas. Tesla began customer deliveries of the Cybertruck on November 30, 2023, bringing to fruition an Elon Musk passion project.

Yes, Elon Musk did promise that his Tesla Cybertruck is a very durable EV; being bullet-proof and can take hard collisions very well.

However, the rust and corrosion issues that Cybertruck owners complain about are not that simple. Business Insider reported that stainless steel is really prone to rust in certain environments.

A Minnesota metal-services company said that when stainless steel is exposed to water, the metal will likely start rusting. Aside from water exposure, saline, grease, and other damaging chemicals can also cause rusting and corrosion.

Being exposed to heat for longer periods can also make the Tesla Cybertruck rust and corrode.
