Two boys, both ten years old, were murdered in a horrific rollover accident in Wisconsin, according to the police. The driver of the car in which they were riding evaded a traffic check and crashed after a chase by law officials.

This happened in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, just before midnight on Wednesday, December 20.

In a new release by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, a deputy from the said agency tried to pull over a speeding car in Pewaukee at around 11:49 PM local time. The driver did not have their license plates visible.

Two 10-year-old boys died in a "horrific" rollover incident after their driver escaped a traffic check and crashed during a police chase.

Tragic Car Crash

Deputy Inspector Patrick Esser of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department told reporters at a news conference on Thursday, December 21, that the driver of the car originally stopped but then left "at a high rate of speed" before the officer was able to successfully establish contact with the driver.

Esser said that two deputies tried to catch up with the car for a short distance before it crashed and flipped over. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident. Delafield is around three miles away from the first traffic stop where the accident occurred, according to the sheriff's department's cross streets.

At the time of the collision, there were a total of six persons from Milwaukee who were inside the car, including two adults and four children, according to the police.

The 29-year-old male driver is reportedly in critical but stable condition at a hospital. His 29-year-old girlfriend is in stable condition at the hospital, too.

Officials said that the driver's two boys, both aged 10, were declared dead upon arrival at the site. A 14-year-old niece and a 6-year-old daughter of the driver are now in severe condition at a hospital.

Investigation To Be Conducted

The Waukesha County Sheriff, Eric Severson, described the accident as "horrific" and "preventable." He added, "The fact that two children lost their lives this morning as the result of really bad decision-making is very saddening to all of us."

Apparently, the driver was already wanted by the authorities on suspicion of felon in possession of a handgun, and the sheriff added that he is expected to face additional charges related to the traffic stop and collision, as reported by ABC News.

In an attempt to be open and honest, Severson requested that the Washington County Sheriff's Department investigate the collision. Meanwhile, his office will be reviewing the department's policies and procedures regarding pursuits. Nevertheless, the sheriff's officers involved did their jobs properly and did not break any laws, according to the early information.

"When law enforcement officers get involved in pursuits, it's because people choose to elude us. We don't take any actions that would provoke somebody to run from us," Severson stated.

After the inquiry is complete, Esser said, the duration of the chase will be disclosed.
