Netflix binge-watching will soon benefit users, especially those who are subscribed to the streaming giant's ad-supported plan.

The new enhancement will allow them to see fewer ads if they spend more time on the online streaming platform.

Netflix announced it will start showing movies and TV episodes over the Internet, providing its subscribers with instant gratification as the DVD-by-mail service prepares for a technology shift that threatens the company's survival.

This effort was confirmed by Netflix on Wednesday, Nov. 1, as it celebrates the launch of its cheapest subscription service, which happened around a year ago.

Netflix Binge-Watching Can Reduce Ads on Ad-Supported Plan

According to 9To5Mac's latest report, the new feature of Netflix's ad-supported tier will enable users to skip some ads by binge-watching.

"Starting in Q1 2024, our advertisers globally will be able to utilize our new binge ad (wt) format that taps into the viewing behavior of watching multiple episodes in a row," said Netflix via its official website

The American streaming giant explained that the new enhancement will allow users who watch three consecutive episodes to watch the fourth one without seeing any advertisements.

This could certainly attract more subscribers, especially since the ad-supported plan is the cheapest tier of Netflix; costing $6.99 per month.

This is not the first time that Netflix improved its ad-supported tiers. When this service first arrived, it only supported 720p streaming.

But, Netflix decided to remove this limitation so that watchers can enjoy their favorite movies and series on 1080p playback.

Aside from this, the streaming platform also made the ad-supported Netflix plan support Apple TV.

Aside from the upcoming binge-watching feature, the American streaming giant also confirmed that the ad-supported tier will soon allow users to download content for offline streaming.

Once this happens, this affordable subscription plan will make Netflix the "only add-supported streamer to offer downloads."

"All of these updates help create the best experience for our clients and members, who are beloved fans of Netflix series and movies," said Netflix.

As of writing, the ad-supported tier is estimated to have over 15 million monthly active users across the world, as claimed by Netflix.

Only time will tell if the upcoming enhancements will further increase these monthly active viewers.
