After completing a stint inside of a rehabilitation center, Demi Lovato realized the definition of who she could give the title, "friend".
According to MTV News, Lovato opened up during a recent interview with Company magazine.
"A couple of months before I went to rehab, I had a birthday party and there were a couple of hundred people there,"she said. "It was full of people who I considered my closest friends."
But after leaving rehab, the "X Factor USA" judge could count her friends on one hand.
"When I turned my phone on after being in rehab for three months, I expected lots of text messages and phone calls,"se said. "I had four texts. That was a wake-up call. I have severe trust issues but I try not be jaded."
The 20-year old songstress revealed to Company, that she enjoys socializing with people outside of the entertainment industry.
"I don't have loads of friends,"she said. "I used to, but then I realized, do any of them actually care?"
The singer believes that her new circle of friends will be around for a long time.
"Now I have people who, if I break my leg in the middle of the night, they'll come to the hospital with me,"she said. "Or they'll answer the phone at 4am if I need them."
The singer also dispelled rumors of a budding romance with One Direction's singer, Niall Horan.
Lovato admits to Horan being a sweet guy but their friendship never crossed the threshold of romance.
"He's a sweet kid and we have an understanding, but we're just friends."
The full interview will appear inside the June issue of Company magazine. Digital editions will go on sale May 8.
