Suzanne Morphew, the mother who went for a bike ride on Mother's Day 2020 and never returned, was discovered dead, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation announced on Wednesday.

The recovery of Suzanne Morphew's remains occurred while authorities were investigating a different case in the Moffat region, approximately 40 miles south of the Salida region, where she was reported missing.

It is the latest development in a conundrum in which prosecutors charged her spouse with murder before dropping the charges. Investigators from Colorado did not specify the location or condition of the human remains and stated that the case is still under investigation. No arrests have been made since the discovery of the evidence.

Barry Morphew, 53, was arrested in connection with Suzanne Morphew's homicide, nearly a year after his wife went missing, according to a Chaffee County Sheriff's Office press release. Per USA Today, he was initially accused with first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence, but the accusations were ultimately withdrawn.

In May, Barry Morphew sued prosecutors and investigators for $15 million, alleging that they violated his constitutional rights. Barry's counsel, Iris Eytan, did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

Who is Barry Morphew?

In April 2022, prosecutors urged a judge to drop and dismiss the murder charges against her spouse, Barry Morphew, for allegedly killing his wife following her decision to abandon him. Text messages from Suzanne that were made public in June indicate that she was having affairs while still with Barry, as per Fox News.

Suzanne wrote the following in a March 7, 2020 text message to Jeff Libler, characterized by the Denver Gazette as a high school crush: "Nobody adores you as much as I do. I yearn for time with you. I desire the sensation I experience when we connect. physically or psychologically. You are my man. Always."

Barry's attorney stated at the time that her client "did not know" about Suzanne's "two-year" affair with Libler, whom she claims law enforcement has not "thoroughly investigated."

The texts also disclosed Suzanne believed her spouse was having an affair in an April 24, 2020, text to Barry. Suzanne texted Barry in March 2020 that they needed to "figure this out civilly."

On May 2 of this year, Barry filed a lawsuit against prosecutors, with his attorneys arguing that he "suffered the indignity of being wrongfully detained, jailed, and prosecuted for an offense he did not commit."

Linda Stanley, 11th Judicial District Attorney, said that "the potential filing of a complaint against an attorney is not the same as the attorney engaging in misconduct" and that "anyone can file a complaint against a lawyer with the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel."
