An alligator is seen in the Pantanal, near the Transpantaneira park road which crosses the world's largest tropical wetland, in Mato Grosso State, Brazil, on September 13, 2020. - The Pantanal, a region famous for its wildlife, is suffering its worst fires in more than 47 years, destroying vast areas of vegetation and causing death of animals caught in the fire or smoke.

A shocking and tragic incident has unfolded in Florida, as a colossal 13-foot (4-meter) alligator was discovered with the remains of a woman in its powerful jaws.

Authorities have confirmed that the animal was ultimately euthanized. Still, the discovery has left a community in shock, and investigators are now working to uncover the circumstances behind this horrifying event, according to Daily Mail.

Enormous Alligator Found With Woman's Remains

The incident came to light when a witness, Jamarcus Bullard, encountered the massive alligator in a Largo canal, carrying what initially appeared to be a dummy. However, upon closer inspection, it became horrifyingly apparent that the creature held a human body in its mouth.

"I noticed it had a body in its mouth - like a lower torso - so once I saw that I ran straight to the fire department," Bullard recounted to local broadcaster Fox 13.

It was Bullard's first time seeing an alligator in real life, and he initially found it cool, but the shock quickly set in as he realized the grim reality. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Sabrina Peckham, was tragically living in a homeless camp near the wooded area where this horrifying incident occurred.

Her family has set up a fundraising page to commemorate her life. Breauna Dorris, who identified herself as the victim's daughter, expressed her heartbreak on Facebook, suggesting that the alligator may have attacked her mother while walking to or from her campsite near the creek in the dark.

"No one deserves to die like this," Dorris poignantly wrote in her emotional online tribute. Authorities responded swiftly, humanely killing the alligator and removing it from the waterway.

A police dive team was dispatched to retrieve Ms. Peckham's remains. Despite the chilling circumstances, the Medical Examiner's Office is yet to determine the official cause of death, New York Post reported.

Local Resident Voices Concern Over Grisly Alligator Incident

Residents in the vicinity were left shaken by the gruesome discovery, with many attesting to having seen small alligators in the area before but nothing of this size or involving such a horrifying event. Jennifer Dean, a nearby resident, shared her concern, especially considering that children often walk in the vicinity.

"It's crazy. My kids walk by there all the time. So it's really scary. I've seen four or five-feet gators but nothing that big," Dean expressed.

The incident has prompted some residents, like Jamarcus Bullard, to rethink their daily routines and prioritize safety. Sabrina Peckham's tragic end is compounded by her history of run-ins with the law. Records show that she had multiple misdemeanors dating back to 2014, along with theft-related convictions.

Her daughter's heartfelt online tribute echoes the sentiment that, regardless of her past, no one should meet such a horrific fate. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this shocking event continues, with the community grappling with the shock of the incident and the loss of a fellow resident.

The discovery is a stark reminder of the unpredictability of wildlife encounters in Florida, where alligators are part of the local ecosystem and can pose dangers when encountered in the wild,
