Microsoft announced its new Xbox Mastercard credit card that will allow players to redeem points and buy games at discounted prices.

Microsoft announced it will release an Xbox MasterCard later this month, allowing people to redeem points and buy games at discounted prices. It will be available exclusively to Xbox testers in the United States.

The new card will not have an annual fee, will be issued by Barclays, and will allow purchases made using it to generate points that can be exchanged for Xbox games and other add-ons. In a statement, the CVP of Xbox player services, Dave McCarthy, said that by using the new Xox Mastercard credit card, players can earn points with everyday purchases.

He notes that these points can be redeemed on games and add-ons at xbox.com. McCarthy added that the card will be exclusively available to Xbox Insiders in the 50 states across the country starting from Sept. 21. He emphasized that the card will expand to all Xbox players in the country in 2024.

The new Xbox Mastercard will not be linked to Microsoft Rewards, meaning it is a separate collection of points that can be earned through purchases. For every $1 that a player spends using the card, it generates one point. As per The Verge, they can exchange 1,500 points to claim a $15 gift card redeemable at Microsoft's online Xbox store.

Owners of the new Xbox Mastercard will also have the ability to earn five points for every $1 they spend on eligible products from the online Microsoft store, three points for every $1 they spend on streaming services such as Netflix and Disney Plus, and three points for every $1 they spend on delivery services such as Grubhub and DoorDash.

APR rates range from 20.99% to 31.99% based on credit, and those who are interested in the new credit card can read the full terms and conditions at the Barclays website. Card members will also receive a bonus of 5,000 points, equivalent to $50, after their first purchase with the card.

They will also get three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate if they are new Game Pass members. This three-month subscription can be gifted to friends or family members if they are already a Game Pass member.

Redeem Points for Games

Those who can get the new Xbox Mastercard can customize it with one of five designs and have the option to personalize it with a gamertag. However, according to Gamespot, Microsoft did not specifically say whether or not this would charge people an additional fee.

Despite the plethora of benefits of the new Xbox Mastercard, it remains unclear what the other "eligible" storefronts are for now. Some people are wondering if they buy Overwatch coins through their Xbox accounts to get a new skin if it would count towards earning five times points on the card.

Those who are interested in being the first to try the new credit card but are not yet Xbox Insiders can apply to be eligible by going to their Xbox console, typing "Xbox Insider Bundle," and installing the "Xbox Insider Hub," said Kotaku.
