Lisa Marie Presley's cause of death has been revealed to have been complications from a previous weight-loss surgery.

A Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's report showed that complications from previous weight-loss surgery had revealed Singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley's cause of death.

The report noted that Presley's death in January was caused by a "sequelae of a small bowel obstruction." Medical professionals use this to describe a blockage in a person's small intestine, commonly caused by scar tissue, a hernia, or cancer. If not surgically removed, it can result in bowel tissue dying or perforating, leading to death.

The autopsy report for the singer-songwriter included the official opinion of deputy medical examiner Dr. Juan M. Carrillo. The medical professional attributed Presley's small bowel obstruction to "adhesions (or scar tissue) that developed" after a bariatric surgery several years ago.

Carrillo said that he also reviewed the autopsy toxicology results, which showed "therapeutic" levels of oxycodone in the deceased's blood. This level is in the range of being medically helpful and not relatively threatening, as per CNN.

The doctor added that quetiapine metabolite, which is commonly used to treat depression, schizophrenia, or manic episodes, and buprenorphine, which is a painkiller that can be used to treat opioid addiction, were present in Presley's system but were found to have not contributed to her death.

In conclusion, Carrillo said that no evidence suggested any injury or foul play was a factor in Presley's death. Additionally, a consultant and professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Michael Camilleri, said on Thursday that the medications found within the deceased's system could have contributed to her death.

Presley was last seen in public a few days before her death when she was at the Golden Globe Awards, where she came alongside her mother to support the Baz Luhrmann film "Elvis," about her late father.

Surgical Procedure Complications

Camilleri said that the medications could have slowed down the motility of Presley's intestine and made it more likely for it to get obstructed by the adhesions. He added that, unfortunately, these adhesions could happen to anyone.

Presley died in January at a Los Angeles hospital after she was rushed by paramedics who responded to a 911 call of a woman suffering from a cardiac arrest at her home. At the time of the incident, no indication was made public as to what could have caused her medical condition, according to Yahoo News.

Her family decided to bury her at a Jan. 22 funeral at Graceland, the location of her home where she lived with her father during her younger years, which has now been transformed into a museum, tourist attraction, and shrine for Elvis Presley fans.

Presley is known as the only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley but is known to have had a half-brother, Navarone Garibaldi, who is from Priscilla's 20-year relationship with Marco Garibaldi, said Fox News.
