British Man Dies After Being Struck by Lightning in Greece

A 26-year-old British man was struck by lightning while paddleboarding off the shore of the Greek island of Rhodes

A 26-year-old British national was reported dead after he was allegedly struck by lightning off the beach of Agia Agathi on the island of Rhodes in Greece Monday afternoon local time. 

According to local media, the unnamed man was paddleboarding when he was struck while his girlfriend filmed him from the beach.  It was also reported that a local football player of Brazilian nationality pulled the man back to shore. Medics took the man to a local hospital before he was declared dead. 

The port authority of Rhodes confirmed the deceased man was from the UK but did not give any further information as it was still "an active case." 

Meanwhile, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office promised to "[support] the family of a British man" and "are in contact with local authorities."
