Legendary rock singer and captivating entertainer Tina Turner has died. She was 83.

Tina Turner's death was announced by her spokesperson, stating that "the 'Queen of Rock 'n' Roll' has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her residence in Kusnacht close to Zurich, Switzerland, Sky News reported.

Born in Brownsville, Tennessee, Tina Turner overcame an abusive relationship and a difficult agricultural community to become one of the most significant recording artists of all time. She became famous in the 1960s with her ex-husband Ike Turner with songs like "River Deep, Mountain High."

Tina Turner cemented her status as one of the best female rock singers of all time throughout the 1980s by captivating crowds with her explosive stage presence and releasing several top-charting singles, including "The Best," "Proud Mary," "Private Dancer," and "What's Love Got to Do With It."

Outstanding Career

Eight Grammy Awards were awarded to her, six of them were in the 1980s. She scored 12 Top 40 hits in the decade, including "Typical Male," "The Best," "Private Dancer," and "Better Be Good to Me."

Tina Turner's status as a survivor was given a fictitious twist in 1985. In Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, starring Mel Gibson, she portrayed the brutal chief of a radioactive wasteland outpost.

Notably, her 1988 performance in Rio de Janeiro attracted a staggering 180,000 spectators, making it one of the biggest crowds for a single singer, according to ABC.

Turner's impact went beyond her music; she defined the rock 'n' roll genre and inspired Mick Jagger's stage persona, per The Guardian.

In 2016 Turner was diagnosed with intestinal cancer and had a kidney transplant in 2017.
