U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) speaks at a press conference at the U.S. Capitol Building on May 18, 2023 in Washington, DC. During the news conference Greene announced that she would be filing articles of impeachment against U.S. President Joe Biden.

Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said she would submit articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden for allegedly breaking his oath of office by failing to safeguard national security and the nation's borders.

At a news conference on Thursday, May 18, Greene said this would be the "first set" of articles she brings against Biden, accusing him of willfully avoiding his duties as the US leader.

Greene declared, "It is with the highest amount of solemnity that I announce my intention to introduce articles of impeachment today on the head of this America-last executive branch, that has been working since Jan. 20, 2021, to systematically destroy this country, the president of the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden."

According to Fox News, this announcement follows her moves to impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and US Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves.

Green characterized these officials as "corrupt" and "unfit to hold office."

Impeachment Articles vs. Biden

In a report by The Hill, Representative Greene said Biden should be ousted for failing to protect the border and intentionally undermining national security by not enforcing immigration rules and preventing illegal entry. She said that by not providing enough funding and policy to border patrol officials, he had enabled migrants to "invade" the nation.

Greene added that Biden had enabled fentanyl to "flood" into the nation and cause daily deaths among American citizens.

The administration's proposal to have Customs and Border Protection release migrants into the US without a means of tracking them or a scheduled court date was another target of her criticism. Under the new rule, migrants are required to use an app to report their whereabouts until they are granted a court date.

According to Greene, this amounts to "catch-and-release," as the migrants can be freed before their court date.

"His policies, directives and statements surrounding the southern border have violated our laws and destroyed our country," she said. "Biden has blatantly violated his constitutional duty, and he is a direct threat to our national security."

Greene has said that she needs more time to get support for her proposed articles of impeachment. She claims she informed other top Republicans of her intention to bring impeachment proceedings and that no one discouraged her, The Hill reported.

"There's never any consequences for anyone in the federal government when regular American citizens face consequences all the time, and I'm introducing these articles because this is what people are demanding," Greene argued.

In accordance with Article II of the Constitution, the president, and other US officials are subject to removal from office if they are impeached and subsequently convicted of "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
