Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking big steps toward a future US Presidential campaign as he invites his top financial backers to a meeting in Miami next week.

Political circles are anticipating the conference, set for May 24-25, with a potential extension. DeSantis officials asked invitees to save such days on their calendars, Fox News reported.

As confirmed by DeSantis' political staff, the Miami meeting functions as a pre-briefing for their most devoted supporters.

Ron DeSantis hasn't publicly announced his candidacy, but electoral finance regulations still permit him to speak with prospective contributors about his intentions for the 2024 US presidential election without asking for donations.

Governor Ron DeSantis is also about to sign a measure that would exempt him from Florida's "resign-to-run" rule, doing away with the need to renounce his position as governor to run for president, per The Guardian.

Florida Republicans Assembly enacted a bill that specifically states that candidates for president or vice president are exempt from the resignation requirement.

Additionally, the measure places extensive new voting limitations on the state, making it far more difficult for non-profit organizations to conduct voter registration efforts.

Ron DeSantis Staff Gears Up For Campaign

This anticipated meeting with funders comes in the wake of many recent tactical actions that suggest DeSantis is about to begin his 2024 US presidential campaign. Notably, his campaign staff moved to new offices from the Republican Party of Florida headquarters, where they had been based ever since the governor's race last year.

According to a person familiar with the matter, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' political organization has started moving from Tallahassee to a new site. The operation, which began on Monday, is expected to cost over $5,000, according to CNBC. It also initiated a 15-day countdown to submit a "Statement of Candidacy" form to the Federal Election Commission.

Bryan Griffin, DeSantis' press secretary, announced his resignation from the position concurrently and said he intended to look into other opportunities to support the governor's national accomplishments. Griffin will reportedly serve as the DeSantis campaign's press secretary.
