ChatGPT, the viral AI chatbot, shares some potential doomsday scenarios to end humanity amid the growing concerns over the possible dangers of the new technology.

One of the doomsday predictions of ChatGPT includes the rise of technology, which is an apparent nod to what tech leaders, including Elon Musk, warned in an open letter early this year.

The chatbot by OpenAI, ChatGPT, has quickly surged into popularity since it debuted late last year. According to Reuters, the generative AI tool will flaunt a staggering 100 million monthly active users by the start of 2023, two months from its launch date.

And as such, ChatGPT has grown faster than viral social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok. Data shows that the latter had to wait roughly nine months before achieving the same user figures as the OpenAI chatbot. Meanwhile, the Meta-owned service took significantly longer, spanning about two and a half years.

Simply put, the viral chatbot momentarily hit the mainstream. After all, it provides various responses based on mere prompts, including computer coding and poetry, making it popular with hundreds of millions of users.

With its astonishing growth, critics and expectations raised concerns over its possible negative effects on society. Amid the growing distress, Fox News Digital reports that ChatGPT shared some of the possible demises of humanity.

One of which centers on the problem of global public health, predicting that a pandemic could wipe off humanity.

In response to Fox, the chatbot says that infectious diseases like COVID-19 "could lead to widespread illness, death, and social and economic disruption." The OpenAI service cites possible diseases that might end the human race, including Ebola and influenza, as well as potential bioterrorism.

Besides a health crisis, nuclear weapons could also destroy humanity on Earth, ChatGPT told Fox. The chatbot notes that "geopolitical tensions" and "regional conflicts" might trigger a possible doomsday scenario.

ChatGPT also cites the pressing issue of climate change as a possible culprit of humanity's extinction. The environmental problem might eventually lead to widespread famine, extreme weather, and high levels of the seas, which might end the human race.

Amid concerns about AI's negative effect on humanity, ChatGPT admits that the development of AI and robotics could lead to "unrest and instability," leading to human extinction.

According to Fortune, the former head of language model alignment on the Safety Team of Open AI, Paul Christiano, warned against the risk of AI ending humanity.

The former OpenAI exec believes that "[there is] 10 to 20% chance of AI takeover." He notes that it would perhaps kill most humans.

Meanwhile, The Verge reports that the 'Godfather of AI," Geoffrey Hinton, who resigned from Google, is also skeptical of the continued rise of AI. The Nobel Prize winner says he left the tech giant to speak freely about the dangers of the new technology.
