NEW YORK, NEW YORK - OCTOBER 17: Ed Sheeran visits SiriusXM at SiriusXM Studios on October 17, 2022 in New York City.

On March 1, Ed Sheeran revealed the title of his highly anticipated new album, 'Subtract,' and said that personal experiences inspired him.

The 32-year-old 'Perfect' singer said in an open letter posted on Twitter that his pregnant wife was diagnosed with a tumor but wouldn't be able to receive treatment until after the baby was born.

Lyra, 2, and Jupiter, nine months old, are the couple's kids, and Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn, his longtime love, married in 2019. Ed Sheeran did not include any information in the letter on his wife's health following the birth of their second kid in May 2022.

The Grammy winner claimed he drew inspiration from various terrible experiences for his new work, including his wife's nearly miscarriage. A month after receiving the news that he had a tumor, Seaborn wrote, "My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter."

He most likely alluded to the lawsuit he had filed against another musician for plagiarism over his song 'Shape of You,' which he had won in April 2022. Sheeran, 24, and Seaborn, 30, initially met while attending Thomas Mills High School in Suffolk, UK. They started dating in July 2015. Sheeran told Us Weekly in March 2017 that "one of our greatest pals" had worked on his tour.

He said the financial counselor inspired his famous love song 'Perfect'. After getting engaged in 2018 and married in 2019, the couple welcomed Lyra into the world in August 2020.

The 'Bad Habits' singer praised his wife while winning the Songwriter of the Year award at the BRITs in February 2022, a few months before having Jupiter.

Ed Sheeran New album 'Subtract'

After his wife's health concern and the shocking loss of his close friend Jamal Edwards, the 32-year-old is expected to release his most intimate album on May 5. Jamal, a music businessman who gave Ed his big break, passed away from a heart attack in February of last year at 31.

Suffolk-born Ed Sheeran also had to deal with a three-week copyright trial amid accusations that he had stolen the idea for his popular song 'Shape of You' while working on the record. Even though he ultimately prevailed, Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol stated the matter had put "extreme pressure" on them.

In February of last year, Ed Sheeran and American songwriter Aaron Dessner of The National began work on the record. During a month-long studio session, the duo, introduced by Ed's friend Taylor Swift, composed more than 30 songs, as per The Sun.

Fourteen songs were included on the final CD, many of which included a large orchestra. His struggles and role as a father of two are alluded to in the songs 'Eyes Closed,' 'Life Goes On,' and 'End Of Youth.'

A string of arena gigs in the UK and Europe have been announced as part of Ed Sheeran's announcement that he is returning to the road. In March and April of this year, he will perform in Manchester, London, Glasgow, Dublin, and Paris. After his May announcement that he had become a parent for a second time, Ed Sheeran also went on tour that year.

Sheeran stated that he had been working on 'Subtract' for a decade, but the events of 2022 altered his life, mental health, and artistic perspective. Hence, the record was changed around one week ago with his "deepest darkest thoughts," CBS News reported.

He stated that songwriting is his therapy and that he "wrote whatever came to mind" while creating this album. He added, "For the first time, I'm not attempting to create an album that people will appreciate; I'm simply releasing something honest and genuine to where I am as an adult."
