During crucial negotiations with dozens of Western allies in southern Germany, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky directly requested tanks, but there is a snag.

Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko warned that New Year's Eve might witness "maximum damage to the energy infrastructure" in Ukraine because of the constant possibility of Russian shelling, which has made the electricity situation in Ukraine "very challenging."

On Ukrainian television, Halushchenko stated that Ukraine was attempting to exploit the period between Russian assaults to lessen its energy deficit by improving power production and transmission capacity.

Ukraine Braces For Russian Attack on New Year

Per CNN, Halushchenko noted that the possibility of shelling might increase during the holidays. Ukrenergo, the state-owned energy company of Ukraine, reported on Tuesday that the power deficit in the system had "slightly decreased due to the increase in the production volumes of the power plant."

However, the available capacity in the system is still insufficient to meet all the needs of consumers in the country due to the concurrent rise in power consumption. Ukrenergo explained in a statement: "This is due to the gradual return to operation of power systems that were destroyed during large attacks, as well as the rebuilding of energy infrastructure in the de-occupied territory."

Ukrenergo stated that the number of users whose energy supply has been partially restored has grown, as has the volume of industrial demand. During his Monday night address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that around nine million people were without electricity in various areas of Ukraine.

In his address on Sunday, Zelensky urged Ukrainians to acquaint themselves with the locations of "points of invincibility" where they may obtain heating, electricity, and natural gas services in the event of the anticipated blackouts. The Ukrainian Energy Minister, German Galushchenko, later reiterated Zelensky's warning.

"The Russians have not abandoned plans to strike the electricity grid. They are adhering to specific dates. And perhaps the New Year is one of those occasions when they will attempt to cause the most harm to our power grid," Galushchenko stated during a national television broadcast.

Ukrainians Might Experience Continuous Power Interruptions

According to Ukriform, Galushchenko remarked that Ukrainians might anticipate many days of continuous electricity supplies during the New Year's vacation if the Russian army did not undertake further significant missile attacks.

Throughout the last months, Russian forces have targeted vital Ukrainian infrastructure with volleys of cruise missiles and drones. Dmitry Peskov, a former spokesperson for the Kremlin, has stated that Moscow was bombing electricity plants to induce massive blackouts and coerce Ukraine into negotiations.

CNN reports that Russia attacked the Kherson area 71 times on Saturday, demolishing residential structures, killing 16 Ukrainian citizens, and wounding 64 others. At least nine million Ukrainian people remain without electricity as of Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Dmitry Medvedev, the former president of Russia, has predicted a war between Germany and France next year, as well as a civil war in the United States that would result in Elon Musk becoming president.

In his list of ridiculous predictions for 2023, which he shared on his own Telegram and Twitter accounts, he also predicted that the United Kingdom will rejoin the European Union, which would thereafter implode.

Medvedev, the deputy leader of Putin's advising security council, was president for four years throughout Putin's tenure as prime minister.

Elon Musk, the chief executive officer of Twitter, reacted to Vladimir Putin's ally's geopolitical predicting by calling it "epic." It comes after Putin met twice in 24 hours with his closest foreign friend Alexander Lukashenko, during which the Belarusian president stated that "many difficulties were resolved."

After Putin utilized Belarus as a staging ground for his invasion of Ukraine in February, there is concern that Belarus may be drawn into the conflict, The Independent reported.
