Even though the year is coming to a close, several states are distributing stimulus checks and tax rebates from the tax year of 2022.

Numerous states are still issuing tax refunds and stimulus checks announced for 2022 as the year comes to a close.

Until the end of the year, South Carolinians will continue to receive printed checks, debit cards, and direct deposits of up to $800. Comparatively, Massachusetts did not begin returning $3 billion in excess tax funds to households until November.

States Tax Rebates Until 2023

Officials in California anticipate completing middle-class tax refunds by mid-January. In addition, your state may issue a tax rebate or stimulus check. Determine if you qualify and how much you may be owed:

Colorado

Thanks to the 1992 Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) Amendment, state residents who filed their 2021 tax return by June 30 should have received a $750 physical check by September 30. (Joint filers will get $1,500.)

In May, Governor Jared Polis signed a bill to expedite the refunds to taxpayers, with more than half cashed by late August. Those who were granted an extension and filed by October 17 will receive their refund by January 31, 2023.

Delaware

After Delaware Governor John Carney approved the Delaware Relief Rebate Program in April, residents who filed their 2020 tax returns received a $300 stimulus check. Even if you filed jointly, each individual should have received a payment beginning in May.

Hawaii

Residents of Hawaii who earned less than $100,000 in 2021 - or $200,000 if filing jointly - should receive a $300 tax rebate this year. Also eligible for the rebate are dependents, so a family of four could receive $1,200. Individuals with incomes exceeding $100,000 and couples with incomes exceeding $200,000 are eligible for a $100 payout.

According to the state Department of Taxation, direct deposits were issued beginning in late August, but paper checks were not distributed until the week of October 17th. Taxpayers who file their 2021 state tax returns between July 31, 2021, and December 31, 2022, should receive their refunds via direct deposit within 10 weeks, or 12 weeks if they requested a physical check.

Idaho

In February, Governor Brad Little signed a bill granting $75 to each taxpayer and dependent, or 12 percent of their state income tax return for 2020, whichever is greater. The mailing of rebate checks began in March, and residents can check the status of their rebates online.

Illinois

The income and property tax rebates included in Illinois' $1.83 billion relief package should be distributed through November. Residents of Illinois who paid state property taxes in 2021 and met certain salary requirements are eligible for an additional $300 rebate.

Besides numerous tax holidays and rebates, Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker's Family Relief Plan included a suspension of the state's sales tax on groceries from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, and permanently increasing the earned income credit from 18% of the federal credit to 20% of the federal credit.

Maine

This year, Maine taxpayers who filed their state tax rebates for 2021 and had an adjusted gross income of less than $100,000 qualified for a direct relief payment of $850. Couples who filed jointly received a single $1,700 payment. Checks were sent out beginning in July, according to WMTW. You can check the status of your tax refund through Maine's government website.

New Jersey

2 million New Jersey households are receiving property tax rebates as a result of the Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) program, which was signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy at the end of June.

The property tax rebates for homeowners earning up to $150,000 are $1,500, while those earning between $150,000 and $250,000 receive $1,000. $450 will be provided to renters with annual incomes up to $150,000.

Patch.com reported that New Jersey state treasury spokeswoman Jennifer Sciortino would only confirm that the rebates would arrive no later than May 2023.

South Carolina

Beginning in November, South Carolina taxpayers began receiving refund checks of up to $800. Any resident who paid taxes will receive a rebate, the amount of which will increase proportionally to their tax liability, up to a maximum of $800.

Couples who file jointly will only receive one rebate. Approximately 44% of South Carolinians who did not pay income taxes will not receive a check.

If you file your 2021 tax rebate by October 17, you will receive your refund before the end of the year. If you file after the extended deadline of October 17 but before February 15, 2023, you will receive your refund in March 2023, according to CNET.

Stimulus Checks 2023

As 2022 draws to a close, many Americans who continue to struggle with high prices will wonder if they can anticipate financial relief in the New Year.

The Internal Revenue Service has previously warned that the absence of federal stimulus checks in 2022 is likely to impact tax rebates in 2023. The agency stated last month that refunds may shrink in 2023. Due to the lack of Economic Impact Payments in 2022, taxpayers will not receive an additional stimulus payment with their 2023 tax rebate.

While there have been no reports of another round of federal stimulus checks, many states have provided residents with tax rebates this year, as per Newsweek via MSN.
