UNC (17-7) heads into Monday's contest looking for their seventh straight win. The Tar Heels haven't lost since Jan. 20, a 76-61 loss to Virginia, and are coming off 75-71 win on Saturday against Pittsburgh.
Sophomore guard Marcus Paige and junior forward James Michael McAdoo lead the UNC in scoring with 17.1 points and 15.3 points per game, respectively, and are two of four Tar Heels averaging double-digit numbers in scoring.
"We know they are loaded with talent," Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton told the Seminoles team website. "They always are. They are well-coached and they're always going to have eight or nine McDonald's All-Americans on their team. Now, because of where we are this particular year in the standings, this game takes on an added importance because - believe me - we need as many victories down the stretch as we possibly can."
Florida State (15-10) have had an uneven February. The Seminoles have lost three of their last five games but are coming off a 67-60 win on Saturday against Wake Forest. With March around the corner, Florida State knows they must finish strong for a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
"We are definitely aware, because at the end of the day that's our biggest goal, to make the NCAA Tournament, coming off the NIT last year," sophomore guard Montay Brandon said. "We keep up with that kind of stuff. We are a very confident bunch. We know what we are capable of. We just have to do it on a consistent basis."
