There's a chance you might be losing out on a $1,400 stimulus check and a $3,600 Child Tax Credit payment if you haven't filed a 2021 federal tax return.

If you haven't filed your federal tax return for 2021, you might be losing out on some hefty stimulus checks. To obtain any money that is owed to you, you can submit your information utilizing the simplified filing process found at GetCTC.org.

Using GetCTC.org provides the advantage of a quicker filing process, according to Roxy Caines, campaign director for the earned income tax credit at the Center on Budget & Policy Priorities.

Stimulus Check, Child Tax Credit Are Still up For Claims

If you don't make the deadline, you still have time to submit a claim through the IRS Free File program, which opens on Thursday, November 17 at midnight Eastern time. They can make such claim by turning in a federal tax return.

The 2021 American Rescue Plan Act, which was approved by Congress, gives millions of Americans temporary access to increased tax credits. Per PanAsiaBiz, a recovery rebate credit was also offered, giving each person a third $1,400 stimulus check.

It also made the already-in-place earned income tax credits and Child Tax Credits more favorable. For children under the age of six and children between the ages of six and seventeen, the child tax credit authorized up to $3,600 and $3,000, respectively.

Up to half of the amounts were paid in advance through Child Tax Credit installments sent each month. However, to collect the remaining money or the entire amount, a family must submit a national 2021 income tax return if they do not get advance payments.

For that tax year, the earned income tax credit-which benefits low- and middle-income workers-was also increased. Workers without children may be eligible for up to $1,502, and filers with three or more children may be eligible for up to $6,728. More employees are now eligible for the credit as a result of the expansion of eligibility for workers without children and younger and older age criteria, according to CNBC.

The IRS sent a notice to 9 million non-filers in September 2020, telling them they might not have received the stimulus checks that year. Due to their modest salaries, many of the non-filers are exempt from filing tax returns. Even if they haven't previously qualified, it's crucial for members of this community to know that they can be eligible for these tax credits. However, some people might be hesitant to even apply for the credits.

What You Need to Claim Your Missiing Stimulus Check?

Notably, you must have a W-2 proving your income on hand if you wish to use GetCTC.org to claim the earned income tax credit. Other filing options could enable people to claim the 2021 increased earned income tax credit if they have earned income they can demonstrate through 1099 forms or self-employment revenue.

For the 2021 tax year, IRS Free File, which is active until November 17, allows individuals with incomes of $73,000 or less to file online. For each income level, there are free fillable forms accessible.

Individuals and families still have up to three years to submit their tax returns and collect any potential 2021 tax credits if they miss both the GetCTC.org and IRS Free File deadlines. Anyone who miss this week's deadlines to look for a nearby Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site that would process past year returns.

As inflation has strained the finances of millions of Americans, several states have also given their residents financial relief. Some nations give universal basic income, which is paid repeatedly rather than just once, while others offer refunds. As a result, many states have decided to broaden their own versions of the child tax credit. Millions of individuals have received payments regardless of how the states handled the financial assistance, as per Marca.
