A Seattle man police believe to be the "cyborg bandit" was arrested on Wednesday in connection to at least 30 bank robberies throughout the area, CBS News reported.
According to FBI officials and local police, the 44-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody as he was leaving a Key Branch in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
Bail was set at $750,000 though he has not been formally charged.
After following the suspect on Tuesday, authorities found the suspect drive near the bank in a van for two hours, before leaving the car with a mask and entering the bank. Ayn Sandalo Dietrich, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Seattle, said he was found carrying an unknown amount of money from the bank as he left.
"We were waiting for him," Dietrich said.
At the beginning of their investigation, officials initially thought the dozens of bank heists were carried out by two individuals, nicknaming them the "Elephant Man Bandit" and "Cyborg Bandit," respectively.
However, once authorities realized multiple similarities between both suspects, they determined only one person was responsible for them due to the same performance constantly being carried out. The burglar always worse latex gloves, never flashed a weapon, and only robbed banks -- a total of 30 -- in the surrounding area.
"It took a lot of tiny pieces of information that came from the different robberies," Dietrich said. "Pulling them all together is what enabled us to build the investigation."
