Jamie, Britney Spears father, has been summoned to court to answer questions regarding his conduct during the pop star's legal conservatorship.

Britney Spears' lawyer has stated that her father's day of reckoning has begun, with Jamie Spears called to appear in court for questioning about surveillance accusations during his daughter's conservatorship.

Britney Spears was put in conservatorship in 2008 and was released from the arrangement in November 2021.

Jamie Spears Accused of Conservatorship Abuse

In court evidence in summer 2021, the pop diva accused her father of conservatorship abuse as she fought to be removed from the conservatorship. On social media, the 40-year-old artist has also spoken out against himself and other family members.

According to a declaration submitted in court earlier this year, Britney Spears' legal team alleged that Jamie Spears had his daughter's bedroom wiretapped. He has now been summoned to court to answer questions about these charges, and within the following 30 days, he will be deposed to testify.

Jamie Spears has also been ordered to turn over all papers requested by his daughter's attorneys. Mathew Rosengart, Britney Spears' lawyer, stated, "It was a very good day in court for Britney Spears, and it was a very good day for justice."

Rosengart told reporters outside the Los Angeles courthouse following the hearing on Wednesday: "Mr. Spears, as the court determined, has now effectively been hiding from his deposition for no less than nine months," according to Newsweek via MSN.

However, Rosengart said during the court  that deposing Britney would be retaliatory and that his client lacks any knowledge that would be beneficial in a deposition because she is the conservatee. If Jamie's team sought information, Weingarten said, he should depose his client or Britney's troubled former business manager, Lou Taylor. On Wednesday, Rosengart told Judge Penny that allowing Britney to be deposed would just "retraumatize" his client.

The court eventually ordered both parties to file documents on whether the pop artist should be deposed by July 22. The judge will hear the case again on July 27. Jamie's motion to compel Britney to produce documents was also denied by Judge Penny, who ordered him to turn over documents and other evidence allegedly in his possession, including electronic surveillance of the star, texts between Britney and her former attorney, and 180 hours of audio recordings.

Britney Spears' Father Allegedly Requested for Estate Cover

The Grammy winner and the disgraced conservator's legal teams also clashed on Wednesday over other matters that remained unresolved after Britney's conservatorship was terminated last November, including Jamie's request that Britney's estate pays his legal bills.

Jamie was compelled to employ Weingarten after Britney's 13-year conservatorship expired because his old legal team deserted him. Rosengart has been seeking to investigate Jamie since there are allegations that he misused cash and spied on his daughter, Page Six reported.

Jamie's request that Britney's estate reimburses his attorney's expenses in the aftermath of the conservatorship's dissolution this past November was also heard before the court on Wednesday. Jamie recruited Weingarten at an hourly fee of roughly $1,200 after his prior legal team ditched him, Variety reported last year.

According to Judge Rosengart, Jamie's petition was not only legally meritless, but also an atrocity was given the facts of the case. Mr. Spears took millions of dollars from Britney as conservator, while paying his attorneys millions more, all from Britney's hard work and hard-earned money, according to Rosengart.

The outlet reported that Jamie was loaned $40,000 by Lou Taylor's organization Tri Star Sports & Entertainment Group in 2008, just before the conservatorship began, and that Taylor's attorney Charles Harder stated that Jamie had repaid the small loan and that it had no impact on Tri Star's work for the estate in later years, as per Daily Mail.
