EU's foreign affairs chief Josep Borell says the European Union weapon stockpile was depleted due to supplying Kyiv with arms, compromising its security.

Josep Borell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated that the EU weapon stockpile needs to be replenished after these arms were sent to Kyiv in the conflict against Russia.

During the hostilities resupplying Ukraine, forces were needed to support them against Russian forces. Trying to support the proxy war of the US against Putin has inadvertently affected the European Union as a shortfall in its defense.

Support for Ukraine Affected EU Security

Borell, the bloc's foreign affairs chief cautioned that the reckless supply of arms to the Ukrainian forces is not wise, reported RT News.

He reiterated that the bloc should exercise more caution related to security and make up for the shortfalls that must be avoided. His blog last Saturday mentioned the alarming shortage of arms caused by arms shipment to Kyiv. Other factors include are leftover from previous budget cuts and underinvestment, Borell remarked.

Furthermore, the bloc's consolidated defense spending has increased by only 20% from 1999 to 2021, particularly in comparison to 66% for the US, 292 percent for Russia, and 592 percent for China.

Hostilities in Ukraine as the Russian conducted the special operation in the Donbas is a hard shift in the security of the European Union. Support for the US-led proxy war has led to precarious security of the bloc members, cited Mass News.

Borell advised this situation calls for the EU to have more prudent actions to guarantee security via a weapon stockpile affected by Kyiv that would need a modernized and interoperable European armed forces with high-end technology. Another is giving their forces more capabilities than it has now, noted TASS.

All investments for the military must be coordinated with all EU members, including unilateral moves by nations that can end as a waste of expenses, including risks of increasing the present gaps and unnecessary duplications.

EU's Depleting Arms Stockpile

The diplomat identified three main lines of action that, over time, should enable the bloc to narrow the gaps in its protection. This includes improving their forces' combat readiness, stockpile resupply, and air defense modernization.

Cyber and space-based capabilities and joint development of relevant key capabilities like main battle tanks are other factors to consider.

The official from Brussels emphasized that the time to move ahead with European defense is now, rebuilding the defense industrial base and operating with the required military capabilities. He remarked to improve military capacity to defend, strengthen NATO, and support partners whenever needed.

Moscow Charge Brussels With Stoking Fires of War

The Kremlin reminded the Involvement of the EU in the Ukrainian conflict and military support; this prompted Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to state this.

Lavrov said the bloc is shifting from a constructive economic platform as it should have been into a militant siding with the Biden administration that has broad geopolitical implications beyond Europe.

Moreover, he said that the bloc has decided to fall in with NATO. Charged both are starting to merge that will end as the EU will be a puppet of the US-led military alliance remarked the Russian foreign minister.

Last April, the Brussels official said that the war would be decided on the battlefield and promised a continuous supply of weapons. This included €2 billion for military aid that will be wasted as Russia hands loss after losing Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the end, the EU's Josep Borell support for Kyiv has backfired and left a depleted weapon stockpile leaving the bloc in danger due to reckless choices.
